This Valentine's day was simple but memorable. Nothing extravagant or fancy but thoughtful. The morning started out with Joe home with us for a bit since he worked the 9:30am shift instead of 6am or 8. So it was nice to have him around and actually see him in the morning. The Ryan and Renee went off to school, and Joe went down stairs to watch some news for a bit. I recruited Kaylee's help to surprise Joe by cleaning out his car and leaving Valentine notes and candies in his car. It was a lot of fun to kiss him goodbye then watch him from the garage door window to see his initial reaction then smile at each other and blow kisses. Kaylee's smile was precious and from ear to ear.
Then for lunch we invited our sisters we visit teach over for lunch. My companion wanted to make a turkey dinner, she did most of the food, I made a few sides, dessert and set the table with grandma's china. Very fancy for lunch standards, but made the occasion fun and festive. We were are left with a full heart and belly!
Then the kids came home from school with all of their valentines they made and received and had a ball looking at each one and eating most of them! Well since Kaylee and Renee aren't in the same class anymore they each got different valentines, and different amounts. Renee has 12 in her class, where Kaylee only has 6. So you can see where this going....of course Kaylee began to be envious of ALL the extra ones Renee had. Renee was gracious enough to share some....initially but when the sharing stopped, the fighting commenced! AND all of the Valentines were confiscated.
The kids played with friends for a bit in the afternoon, but the neighbors mom came over to tell me that Kaylee hit one of their kids, and when the dad told her not to hit, Renee spouted out back to him "YOU DON"T TALK TO MY SISTER THAT WAY!!" So needless to say they had to come home. Geesh. So we had a talk and made more valentines to apologize for both of their behaviors and went back to say sorry. It felt good to apologize.
Then we had a nice lasagna dinner as a family and all gave cards to each other. Simple but fun, yummy and memorable.
